Fantasy fiction is an odd duck. It doesn't get much respect or recognition. And yet it takes genuine talent to create worlds and people that are pure imagination, but yet we find ourselves believing in them.
And writing fantasy fiction for the Christian marketplace just tends to ratchet it up a notch. Incorporating a real belief in the One True God in a way that is non-offensive, realistic, yet sparks a refreshing view takes a gift.
Then there are those who write Christian fantasy for the young (or young at heart, like me). Today's youth are so jaded and so skeptical in many ways, even within the church. For many, if it doesn't have flash and bang, you won't get their bucks.
So my hat is off to Jonathan Rogers. He has not only created a world that is fun and inviting...created characters that are worth reading and knowing about...incorporated Biblical truth without being preachy or wishy-washy...but he has also written a quality book series that appeals to all ages and both genders.
Bravo.
And to all who delve into that world of writing we call speculative...to all who make us think outside the box and go deeper in our beliefs...to all who give us fresh perspective on timeless truths...
Encore! Bravo!
And thank you.
