I Need Book Advice--Imagine That!! LOL!!

I have a daughter who is 17, but has struggled with reading. She is now plowing her way through the series "Forbidden Doors" by Bill Myers, and is looking for something similar.

She likes the "spooky" stuff, but doesn't want wicca or witchcraft elements unless they are being exposed to the truth of God's Word. She has also enjoyed the Christian manga series "Serenity".

Any suggestions? No sex, no/mild language, preferred.

Oh, and she is also reading the "True Colors" series by Melody Carlson with me.

Thanks in advance!!

Ok, these are below her in reading level, but I had the best time reading them earlier this year.

Uglies, Pretties, and Specials (The Uglies Trilogy) by Scott Westerfeld.

has she read the veritas project books by Frank Peretti? There's only two in the series but they are very good for teens - Hangman's Curse (which was made into a movie) and Nightmare Academy

i'd also recommend the diary of a teenage girl series by melody carlson and the brio girls series as well (several authors)

and of course the Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen series by Robin Jones Gunn

My 17 year old loves "This Present Darkness" by Frank Perretti. If your daughter likes allegorical stuff again my 17 year old daughter loved "The Circle Trilogy" by Ted Dekker. The titles are "Black", "Red", and "White".

And like Deborah mentioned the teenage girl sets were popular with her too. There are about 4 different sets of those each set dealing with a different main character.

Hmm...how about the Shadow Children Series by Margaret Peterson Haddix? Not a ton of religious elements, but God is mentioned in a very postitive sense. No witchcraft/sex either. Also, the Passages series by Paul McCusker is great...the back even states "Passages are adventures set in another time and place that parallel biblical stories. Darien's Rise (Bk.1) is a gripping saga that shows the importance of responding to God's call." Hopefully those give you some idea!

I vote for anything Peretti. I read This Present Darkness in 9th grade. Also Robin Jones Gunn...not spooky but definitely for teens. I really like Donita K Paul's Dragon books. My teenage sil's love romances: especially Lori Wick & Karen Kingsbury. I know you know all these, but at least those girls are similar age to yours. HTH!
