This book was surprising. It was written by the creator of Veggietales, and the voice was distinctly veggie. You could hear Bob the Tomato in the writing. Which isn't really all that amazing, when you think that Phil was Bob. Is Bob...does Bob's voice...anyway!
Phil is brutally honest in his explanation of the dream, the rise of the dream, and the crash of the dream. And the lessons learned from the entire process make the loss of Big Idea entirely worth it.
Phil is a humorous and self-deprecating man, who only wants to bring glory to His God. Now. But when the entire thing started...let's just say God's glory and Phil's heart's desire collided, combined, and blurred somewhere along the line.
And doesn't that happen to all of us at one point? Whether our dream is as big as Big Idea and VeggieTales, or as small as a blog that gets 100 hits a day...our honest, heartfelt desire to bring glory to God can get polluted with our pride, our ego, our desire to be bigger and better for Him...
I thoroughtly enjoyed reading the account of Big Idea. But I enjoyed even more the account of the spiritual journey of Christianity's most beloved cartoonist, Phil Vischer.
It does get a little blah near the pinnacle of Big Idea's success. The fact, figures, and details get a little tedious. But that isn't because of the writing...but more because of the subject matter. So, hang in there until the end. Phil did, and you'll be glad you did as well.
I'm so thankful God gave Phil VeggieTales...but I'm even more thankful Phil gives it all to God.
I give "Me, Myself, & Bob" 5 bookmarks, and a bonus bookplate!! This book rocks!
Happy Reading!
