If I Run by Terri Blackstock
About the Book:
Casey knows the truth. But it won’t set her free. Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore. But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run? Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.
My Thoughts:
This is Terri Blackstock's best book yet (I should know--I've read them all!), and I love how she builds the story in "If I Run". Be warned: the first few pages are the only time you can catch your breath. Once the private investigator (Dylan) comes in, prepare for a wild and treacherous ride.
I'll admit I had a hard time engaging with the story at first. Terri's style changes a bit with each new series, but I adjusted quickly and found myself on the lamb with Casey. You will go wherever Casey goes, and you will feel whatever Casey feels. "If I Run" has a definite 'ripped from the headlines' feel
My favorite thing about one of her novels? Terri always keeps faith as the heart of her story, and she has the ability to let it flow naturally from the characters in the book. She's never preachy or heavy handed, but no one turns the last page without hearing the Gospel message.
"If I Run" releases in March 2016, so pre-order now. My thanks to my friends at Zondervan Publishing for my advance copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Highly recommended...but
Be warned: major cliffhanger!!
