Finding Spiritual Whitespace by Bonnie Gray

About the Book::

Move beyond Surviving to a Rejuvenating Place of Soul Rest
How many of us find ourselves running on empty with no time for rest, no time for ourselves, no time for God?

Bonnie Gray knows what that's like. On the brink of fulfilling a lifelong dream, she saw her plans shatter into a journey through painful memories and anxiety. In her search for answers, she made an important discovery: we all need spiritual whitespace.

Whitespace.
It's the space on a page left unmarked. Untouched. Whitespace makes art beautiful. It gives the eye a place to rest. Just like beautiful art, our souls need balance and beauty.

With heartbreaking honesty, Bonnie guides you to discover a better story for yourself, one that feeds your soul and makes room for rest. Infused with biblical encouragement and thought-provoking prompts, this book shows us how to create space in the everyday for God, refreshment, and faith—right in the midst of our stress-frayed lives.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely love the cover of this book!  Even the concept was appealing...Who doesn't need some serious down time?  And I remembered the idea of white space from my days in art class: without white space there truly isn't any balance.

Bonnie writes with pure transparency, sharing events by the grace of God, they are such deep, deep memories.  I must admit some of what she shared was hard to read.  Her words are powerful and she takes you back into her childhood so vividly you feel like an eye witness, but helpless to act.

Her chapters are short and end with suggestions and journal prompts that can be used for personal study of small group study.  This is a very intimate book, designed for women who need deep healing in their spirits and hearts.

To say I enjoyed the book feels uncomfortable, because I hurt so badly for Bonnie as a little girl and as a grown woman reliving her memories.  However, I do admire her honesty, her use of whitespace to paint a vivid picture of a balanced and healthy life, and her style of writing.

My thanks to my friends at Revell Publishing Group for my advance copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  I'm offering a mixed review, as I found the book well written, but the subject matter may be too much for some.

Happy Reading!
