Unglued by Lysa Terkeurst

About the Book:

God gave us emotions to experience life, not destroy it! Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most women, has had experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally unglued.

We stuff, we explode, or we react somewhere in between. What do we do with these raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and in her usual inspiring and practical way, Lysa will show you how.

Filled with gut-honest personal examples and biblical teaching, Unglued will equip you to: Know with confidence how to resolve conflict in your important relationships. Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you learn to be honest but kind when offended. Identify what type of reactor you are and how to significantly improve your communication. Respond with no regrets by managing your tendencies to stuff, explode, or react somewhere in between. Gain a deep sense of calm by responding to situations out of your control without acting out of control.

My Thoughts:

Lysa Terkeurst is my kind of Bible teacher!  I've read many of her books and done a few of her studies, and her words always strike a chord with my soul.  None, however, has blessed me more than her most recent book, "Unglued."

Life has most definitely not turned out the way I'd dreamed of when I was much younger.  I've fielded more curve balls in my recent years than I'd care to discuss.  And the stresses of life, more often than not, cause me to feel unglued.

I appreciate the book because Lysa speaks with experience.  Her opening anecdote had me both in stitches and in tears, because that so easily could be me!  She invites us on a journey of imperfect progress, reminding us that none of us 'have arrived'.

Lysa describes two basic types of unglued personalities: the stuffers and the exploders.  I'm in both categories.  I tend to stuff until one day I finally explode.  She doesn't just leave us there, though...offering wisdom and practical advice on how to remain glued to the Savior when life comes at us.

It isn't always the larger things we deal with that cause us to come unglued.  Sometimes it turns out to be lots of the little things piled up, things that we refuse to deal with on a daily basis.  Trying to be super-women, we end up losing it with those we love most...and often over the silliest of things.

I love this book!  God brought it to me at just the right time, and I've gleaned so much from reading it.  I received an advance copy via NetGalley from Zondervan in exchange for an honest review.

Truthfully, I loved it so much I asked my husband to buy it for me when it released!  You can find a copy of "Unglued" in bookstores now...and look for the "Unglued Devotional" (on my wish list) and consider getting a group of friends together for the study.

Happy Reading!
