CFBA Presents "Strands of Deception" by Robin Caroll

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Strands of Deception
B&H Books (March 1, 2013)
by
Robin Caroll

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Born and raised in Louisiana, Robin Caroll is a southerner through and through. Her passion has always been to tell stories to entertain others. Robin’s mother, bless her heart, is a genealogist who instilled in Robin the deep love of family and pride of heritage—two aspects Robin weaves into each of her books.

When she isn’t writing, Robin spends time with her husband of twenty-plus years, her 3 beautiful daughters, 2 precious grandsons, and their character-filled pets at home—in the South, where else?

ABOUT THE BOOK

When Gina Ford, the daughter of a prominent Tennessee politician, goes missing from the University of Memphis a week after another girl was murdered on the same campus, police call in the FBI. Nick Hagar, married to his job as Special Agent in Charge, is assigned to the case, and when Gina’s body is found, her father demands justice.

Maddie Baxter is the forensic expert running DNA tests from the crime scene. When they come back without a match, Nick asks her to do a familial DNA run that yields a shocking result: the prime suspect is Adam Alexander, the very same guy who broke Maddie’s heart when she was in college.

But do scientific advancements tell the whole story? Strand of Deception offers romance, suspense, and a lively debate about the impact of DNA testing, for better or worse, on the United States justice system.

My Thoughts:

Robin Caroll is in my personal Royal Court of Inspirational Suspense Authors (Blackstock, Collins, Eason, Hannon and Henderson).  Her stories are rich in faith and well developed characterization, as well as some plausible but hard to figure out scenarios.  "Strand of Deception", in my opinion, is her best novel to date.

Maddie is fascinating!  I'd LOVE her job!  And if I ever go on trial, I want someone with her knowledge and expertise in my corner.  She is like a dog with a highly interesting bone when it comes to getting to the truth--she won't stop.

And Nick is her ideal counterpart.  He keeps her going when she wavers due to her loyalty (another characteristic I admired in her).  Robin demonstrates how loyalties can sometimes blind us to the necessary truth that we need to see.

I love Robin because she takes cutting edge technology and ripped-from-the-headlines style cases and writes faith-filled and truly flawed characters into these stories.  You won't find larger than life heroes and whiny heroines here!  These are people who could walk off the pages and into your local coffee shop.

I received an advance copy via NetGalley from B&H Fiction (my actual book never arrived) in exchange for an honest review.  "Strands of Deception" is highly recommended.  For a full view of the characters, I recommend you also read the first two novels in the series, "Injustice For All" and "To Write A Wrong" (I also love her clever titles!)

Happy Reading!
