Afterlife by Hank Hanegraaff

About the Book:

If there was ever a need-to-know book, AfterLife is it. On his daily call-in radio show, the most common questions Hanegraaff fields are about the hereafter.

For instance, millions are voraciously reading about the near-death experiences of young children. Consumers are desperate for knowledge and reassurance about what comes after life on this earth.

Hank Hanegraaff, one of the most remarkable theological minds of the 21st century, explains the marvelous way this physical life connects our past to our eternal future. AfterLife gives readers a clear and concrete understanding about what happens after death to us and to those we love.

My Thoughts:

I can see why books about what happens after we die are so incredibly popular considering mankind's need to know nature.  These books are told as narratives, and give details that we crave in order to have understanding and to feel secure.

However, as Hank Hanegraaff (and others) are quick to point out, not one story full matches the others in the details given.  And most, if not all of the time, the experiences recounted parallel the person's current belief system (for more detail you'll have to read the book).

"Afterlife" is not a narrative.  Instead it is a book of facts based on Scripture.  It is a series of commonly asked questions taken one by one and answered based on what can be gleaned from the Bible.  Which means two things:

1) "Afterlife" won't be as appealing to the masses, which is a tragedy, and

2) We won't get what we want, which are answers to unanswerable questions (like, what does God really look like).

But that last part is actually fine, since God Himself told us that "no eye has seen, no ear has heard what God has in store for His people", and that He has planned "far more than we can ever imagine or think".

Still, we need to know the truth.  Hank Hanegraaff does his best to provide that truth, and he is a man I trust.  His book is well designed and easy to read: since he takes on each question singularly the chapters are short, but he also groups the questions into larger sections so you can get a full picture of the topic at hand.

I particularly enjoyed chapter seven, since I've had my own curiosity about these near death experience books but haven't wanted to pay the money to see what all the fuss is about concerning each new book.  Hank summarizes each well, then lays the experience out with Scripture for the reader to see the truth.

It's sad that so many well intentioned people are out there, trying to give us a glimpse into the eternal (and wrong that many not-so-well intentioned ones are attempting to distort it).  I'm grateful for men like Hank Hanegraaff and others who are willing to tackle the topics that we long to understand.

I didn't fully agree with everything Hank wrote, but that's okay as well.  I know we're both passionate about the same Jesus and He'll sort it all out when we get there!  Until then, I recommend "Afterlife" to those who long to know more about Heaven and what lies ahead for the believer...and the unbeliever as well...

...yes, Hank even tackles the topic of hell...which is real, no matter what else you've read these days.

I received a copy of "Afterlife" by taking part in a book tour through GlassRoads Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, this is a keeper.  Buy yourself a copy, and give one as a gift to someone who has questions about life after we die.  After all, don't we all have questions?  "Afterlife" is published by Worthy Publishing and is highly recommended.

As with any non-fiction book about God and faith...get your Bible out when you read, okay?  And let's meet up in Heaven and talk about it together...make sure you know the Jesus of the Bible!

Happy Reading!

Thank you, Deena, for reading and so beautifully reviewing AfterLife. I especially appreciate your highlighting the fact that the testimonies of near-death experiencers are wildly divergent, mutually contradictory, and stem from the individual’s prior beliefs. Thus, Hank exhorts us to test everything by Scripture. AfterLife helps us to live in Christ here and now with a true eternal perspective. Blessings to you.

Well Hank is a remarkable person with a remarkable mind. He is able to reach out to people who have doubts about God and his book is backed up with Scriptures to give his audience credibility on what he wrote.
