From the Back of the Book:
Tessa Lancaster worked for her uncle in the Japanese mafia until she was
sent to prison for a murder she didn't commit. Now, after finding God behind
bars, she takes odd jobs as a bodyguard to keep her distance from the family
business.
In A Dangerous Stage, the second book in Camy Tang's Protection for
Hire series, Tessa gets caught up in the web of lies surrounding a shady singing
competition. Hired by one of the contestants, she works with Charles
Britton---the lawyer who sent her to prison---to discover the dark figures
manipulating the contest from behind the scenes.
Tessa's abilities will be
tested like never before as she's forced to balance the safety of her client's
family and her deepening relationship with Charles. In the midst of the chaos,
she holds on to her faith to keep her safe and bring down the shadowy
organization.
My Thoughts:
Who would have thought reality television could be so deadly?
Camy Tang has been on my 'must read' list since I picked up the first novel in her Sushi series, and she has repeatedly earned the right to be in my top ten of favorite authors. It must be wonderful to live in Camy's imagination!
With "A Dangerous Stage" she continues her 'Protection For Hire' series with former Yakuza muscle and new believer, Tessa Lancaster. Just the idea of a former 'hit woman' for the Japanese mafia becoming a Christian through unlikely circumstances is a winner of a concept for me!
Camy continues to write intense suspense laced with humor, and I've really grown to love Tessa and her companions...especially the slightly off kilter ones (mostly Tessa's extended family!).
Charles, however, tends to get on my nerves, but I don't hold it against him...he's just written that way. His mother is adorable, though, so that redeems him in both my eyes and in Tessa's.
George Mynheir (is this a tribute to another favorite author, I wonder?) and his daughter Hannah take center stage in this story, and I fell in love with the feisty Hannah from the moment I met her. I do believe Tessa finally met her match with this young lady!
Be warned: you must pay attention to every detail, no matter how seemingly casual Camy introduces it. She has truly honed her writing craft, and it is well demonstrated in the execution of the novel.
I received a copy of "A Dangerous Stage" from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, if you miss out on this series, and this book...then Tessa needs to look you up and give her personal attention to your oversight. But don't worry...she doesn't work for Uncle Teruo any longer!
"A Dangerous Stage" is highly, highly recommended.
Happy Reading!
