My Thoughts:
I love my job...some would call it a hobby. But it's my profession...reading and reviewing books that come my way. Without that, I would miss some life-changing books that never would have caught my attention. "Desperate for Hope" is a do-not-miss reading experience.
Bruce Martin writes from personal life experience about our desperate need for hope in this life. He writes exquisitely about the book of Job, and brings thoughts to light that I hadn't seen in the familiar Scriptures before.
Along with his explanation of passages in Job and other books of the Bible, Bruce shares examples from today...stories of people who have weathered storms that would shipwreck the faith of the most faithful, were it not for this hope we have in God.
Basically, he puts authentic feet to our faith, and puts suffering in a believer's life in proper perspective. I read the endorsements for the book (I tend to be one who reads everything) and one author stated that, if you loved "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan and "Radical" by David Platt...then you'll love "Desperate for Hope" in the same way.
I agree. Bruce takes suffering and lays it side by side with God's Word and paints an enlightening picture that most definitely gives great hope. I received a copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review.
I am so thankful I didn't miss this one. "Desperate for Hope" arrived at just the right time, and is highly recommended. This is a book that is a must-read for every believer...and one I intend to share with those I love.
Happy Reading!
