Double Take by Melody Carlson

I'm a HUGE fan of Melody Carlson. She's one of the best when it comes to teen/YA fiction. Her name on the cover or in a recommendation makes any book a must read for me and for my youngest daughter. BUT, her newest title was not a favorite for me...

"Double Take" is a modern version of a classic tale. Madison Van Buren is rich, privileged, and facing a wealth of opportunities for her future. Did I mention she's stressed beyond stressed?

Anna Fisher misses the one true love of her life. But he left behind his Amish community for the world of the Englishers, and she hasn't heard a word from him since his departure.

A chance meeting spins two lives in new directions: Madison to the simple life and Anna to the world of glam and glitz. Can these two pull it off, or will the scheme fall apart from day one?

The Amish twist made the story mildly appealing, but I've read it/heard it/seen it so often, the story lost its punch for me long ago. Melody's tale is well-written and I'm sure the story may resonate with some teens...

...but I zipped through its pages and then forgot what I'd read almost immediately. While I appreciate Donna Hausler and Revell sending me a copy...this is one that won't land on my top teen read list.

"Double Take" is available now from Revell...but I'm only giving it three out of five bookmarks...not because it's poorly written, but because it's been over-told.
For some, not a major factor...but I know how creative Melody Carlson can be.

So I'll be waiting for her next book, eager to see what she creates next...

Happy Reading!

This story was so implausible. It had its moments, but I really struggled with it too.
