A Wish and a Prayer by Beth Reinke

These days, our children are influenced by many things...unfortunately, many of them point from God instead of toward Him. One of the greatest lessons we can teach our children is to rely on the One who cares most for them.

Which is why I'm so pleased to introduce you to Beth Reinke and her new children's book, "A Wish and a Prayer". Jason is a creative and energetic young boy, and his best friend happens to be his parrot, Sonny.

One day, while the two are playing together, a noise startles the parrot and he flies out the open window. Jason searches everywhere for him, distraught at the loss of his pet and his friend.

His school friends try to help him out: one suggests making a wish at the 'magic time' of 11:11. Another nudges Jason to toss pennies into a wishing fountain. More friends have ideas on how to bring Sonny home, and Jason tries them all.

After nothing seems to have worked, Jason has a talk with his mom. She reminds him of God's love and care for him, and asks if he's prayed and asked God to find Sonny and to bring him home.

Jason realizes just how silly his other efforts were, and asks God to make a way for Sonny to return. How does the story end? You'll have to get your copy and read to find out...but I think you can figure it out!

Beth's story combined with colorful illustrations from Ginger Nielson create an easy-to-read and relevant story of trust in God versus wishful thinking and even magical effort.

I enjoyed every page of "A Wish and a Prayer", and am giving it four out of five bookmarks, with a feather as a charm. In an age when kids look to just about anything to 'make their wishes and dreams come true', I highly recommend this book.

Read it with your children, and make sure to remind them that God cares about them far more than they can comprehend, and always wants the best for their lives...even when it comes to parrots!

My thanks to Beth Reinke for my copy of her delightful book! "A Wish and a Prayer" is available in bookstores and online...so order one today!

Happy Reading!
