Bound by Guilt by C.J. Darlington

I love it when an author has a stellar debut like C.J.'s first novel, "Thicker Than Blood". But it's even cooler when their next book is even better than the first! C.J. Darlington is a fantastic writer who's here to stay, and I'm very glad!

"Bound By Guilt" is the sequel to "Thicker Than Blood", but it can be enjoyed as a stand alone. Roxi Gold was basically dumped by her own mother, and taken in as a foster child, ending up as an accomplice in theft.

Seems this mother and son duo enjoys rare antique books and the money they bring in. Roxi hates this life, and wants out.

Especially after a robbery goes bad and tragedy hits hard. On the run and searching, can she ever find what her heart longs for: a safe place to land and somewhere to belong?

Officer Abby Dawson has her own loss to deal with. Her career has cost her pretty much everything...even her own child. And she's seen it all in her profession. When she catches a case involving a senseless crime that changes everyone it touches, can she find the truth?

And can both find the freedom in forgiveness they each seek? Powerfully written, rich with authentic detail and vivid characterization, "Bound By Guilt" surpasses C.J. Darlington's excellent debut, sealing her a spot on my 'must read' list.

C.J. includes just enough detail about the rare book world to intrigue the reader and to showcase her expertise, but never enough to bog the story down. Instead, she creates a fascinating backdrop for stories about everyday people.

People just like us...searching for what can only be found in Jesus. You'll weep for Roxi, get frustrated for Abby, and be rooting for everyone in this story. Have the tissues handy, and block out a lot of time to read, because you won't want to put this one down until the final page is turned.

I'm hoping we see more of these characters in the future, but anything C.J. creates will be on my shelves one day. I'm giving "Bound By Guilt" five out of five bookmarks with a key as a charm...could it be the key that unlocks Roxi's future??

My thanks to C.J. and my friends at Tyndale for my advance copy. Watch for "Bound By Guilt" to hit shelves everywhere March 2011!

Happy Reading!
