The Brotherhood by Jerry B. Jenkins

May I just say...Wow! What a story...and this is just the beginning of a new three-part series by NYT Bestselling Author Jerry B. Jenkins. Imagine your favorite cop drama...and picture the main character coming to Jesus...and you'll get a taste of what this new series is all about.

"The Brotherhood" takes a Chicago police officer and follows the course of his life and career. Boone Drake has dreamed of being one of Chicago's finest, helping to put away gang members and to disrupt the network of crime plaguing his beloved city.

As a rookie, Boone makes a name for himself as a cop no one wants to mess with. With a solid reputation, a gorgeous wife and adorable son...what more could a guy want? When his probationary period is over and his raise kicks in, Boone puts money down on his dream home, and is thankful for the life he's built.

But a tragic accident turns Boone's perfect world upside down. His personal life is crushed, his job is now in jeopardy and his future lacks direction. It is often in adversity that we learn what we're really made of...and such is the case for Boone Drske.

Jerry Jenkins takes Boone down a path in search of meaning, purpose and faith...but it isn't a journey you can imagine. Coming face to face with Chicago's toughest gang leader to help solve one of the largest crime rings in Chicago will take more than Boone can give...

...or will it?

I was hooked from the first page, and had to keep telling myself to slow down and savor the story. Each chapter fleshed out the character of Boone Drake, and I found myself rooting for him to triumph over his challenges. At some points I was holding my breath, dreading what might come next.

This is one book I was ready to read again from start to finish once I was done...it's that compelling and that good. I've been told this is a trilogy, and I can't wait to see what Jerry has planned next for our friend Boone.

"The Brotherhood" could easily be the book of the year in my opinion...but it doesn't release until February 2011, so we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, I'm giving it the Golden Bookmark for Writing Excellence and urging you to put this one on your 'must read' list.

My thanks to Beverly Rykerd for my advance copy. I'll be forever grateful for the chance to read it!

Happy Reading!
