Solitary by Travis Thrasher

I've loved Travis Thrasher's writing ever since picking up a copy of "The Promise Remains". With rare exception, his books have captivated me and astounded me with their beauty and intrigue.

When he began writing for the suspense/horror genre, I was ecstatic! And found he was SO GOOD at telling a story that sent chills down my spine, yet also gave a message of redemption that blessed my heart.

So, naturally, I was thrilled when I heard he started a new series for young adults called "The Solitary Tales", published by David C. Cook. I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy...just the cover art was creepy enough to entice me.

Honestly...I am in a love/hate relationship with this book! But I'm HOOKED!

Chris Buckley is 16 and basically, for all intents and purposes, on his own. His parents messy divorce drove his mom to move back to the town she grew up in...Solitary, North Carolina. Chris chose to move with her...but now he's having second thoughts.

In Solitary, all of the rules are different. High school is a strange enough place, but Solitary makes it even stranger. Bizarre warnings, stares for no reason, bullies that are larger than life...and no one to guide you through the difference in this new environment.

Then, there's Jocelyn. She's beautiful, mysterious, and Chris is over the moon when it comes to thoughts of her. But it seems Jocelyn is forbidden. And he can't figure out why.

The cold atmosphere of Solitary will chill you to the bone. Like Chris, you will be drawn to Jocelyn, finding her irresistible and wanting to rescue you from whatever horror holds her captive.

You'll be rooting for Chris and longing to leave this bizarre, twisted town. Longing to get back to the normalcy of where you dwell, to leave the people and problems of Solitary behind.

Problem is, once you've gone to Solitary, you won't be able to leave until your time there is finished. And you may not like all that you witness there. But someone has to speak for the innocent of Solitary.

As I said...it's a complex love/hate relationship. It's a guarantee I'll be holding my breath until the next book releases (figuratively speaking!), waiting for the chance to dive back into the chill mystery of this town.

I'll probably be worried about Chris Buckley until I see him again! LOL!! So, I'm giving "Solitary" four out of five bookmarks, with a security blanket as a charm...I know I'd want one if I had to live there! High school can be enough of a nightmare without attending "Solitary" High.

My thanks to Audra Jennings at B&B Media for my copy. Be sure to pick up a copy today...oh, and did I mention this is a Young Adult novel...funny...I enjoyed it so much I forgot!

Happy Reading!
