Code Triage by Candace Calvert

Expert author Candace Calvert wraps up her action packed medical trilogy with her best novel ever. "Critical Care" secured a spot on my 'must read' list, and 'Disaster Status' continued to keep me engrossed.

But "Code Triage" was more than entertainment for me. Each character came to the table with a history that defined who he or she was, while each encounter became a transforming work in his or her life.

Dr. Leigh Stathos runs from commitment...as far and as fast as she can. Which makes her marriage to San Francisco Police Officer Nick Stathos a miracle. But, as Leigh learned from her mother, happiness doesn't last and forever isn't forever.

If only moving on wasn't so complicated. Her return to Golden Gate Mercy to help her sister through some personal issues was necessary, but now that Caroline seems back on track, maybe it's time for Leigh to move forward, putting her marriage and impending divorce behind her.

An unexpected encounter with her husband's mistress nearly pushes Leigh over the brink...and she can't seem to get enough distance from her or from Nick. Child Crisis worker Samantha Gordon seems intent on pushing the knife of betrayal into Leigh's heart as far as possible.

It seems Nick's hopes for reconciliation are nearly impossible now. He knows he broke his vows to Leigh and has asked her forgiveness again and again. Will Leigh's lack of response encourage Nick to seek comfort from Samantha again, or can he stick to his renewed commitment to Leigh?

Hospital chaplain Riley Hale does her best to be there for others in crisis, but she's carrying a heavy load on her own shoulders. A freak accident sent her into rehab with her shoulder, ending her days as a nurse and nudging her into faith counseling.

Or was it an accident? Can Riley peer through the shadows of her memory to piece together what happened, or will fear continue to hold her in its tight grip?

When a case of possible child neglect brings the characters together to find answers, a desperate act of horrific violence threatens what little stability each character still has to cling to.

As I read the stories of these intriguing people, I saw brokenness, fear and loneliness everywhere. Each character acted out of their own areas of hurt and damage, and each reacted in different ways.

Ultimately, they all needed to take the shattered pieces of their past to the Master Craftsman, allowing Him to take the shards and shreds and turn them into something breathtaking and lasting.

We're all broken in some area or in some way. Candace demonstrates so skillfully the need for communication and for prayer. Faith can most definitely move mountains and heal any wound, if we'll trust in God for His way and not our own way.

This was a very satisfying conclusion to one of the most enjoyable medical trilogies! Can't wait to see what Candace has in store next. My thanks to Mavis at Tyndale for my copy.

I'm giving "Code Triage" five out of five bookmarks, with a lemon as a charm. Don't miss this series...really good reading!

Happy Reading!

Very nice review! I've read the first book in this series, but I didn't know the story to this one. I'm not usually a fan of books with infidelity as a plot, but I'm sure I'll end up reading this one cause the first one was great.
