Big God by Britt Merrick

Have you ever wondered why we sometimes have such a hard time trusting God? After all, He's proven Himself trustworthy time and time again throughout the ages. According to author Britt Merrick, maybe we have a small view of God. It's time to take it up a notch!

"Big God" takes on a journey through Hebrews 11, known as the "Hall Of Faith" chapter. Britt examines the lives of those chronicled in this chapter of Scripture, shining a fresh light on the character of some of the Bible's best known individuals.

From Abel to Sarah, we go deep inside the lives of those who've walked before us, looking at lives of faith that inspire and encourage. They inspire because we see how faith worked in their lives...and encourage because we realize they were just human beings like us, flawed and frail.

Britt started out making surf boards for Channel Islands Surfboards (and yes, I had heard of the company!). God became Lord of Britt's life and he has dedicated himself to full-time ministry and teaching.

I can see his love and his passion for Scripture in these pages. Britt has done his best to walk in the shoes of the heroes of old, bringing them to life as examples of faith for us today.

He also makes the point that each person is a stop on the faith journey, an order if you will of how faith is lived out. First, faith worships (Able), then faith walks (Enoch). Faith then works (Noah), and is willing (Abraham).

By the time you've finished the book you'll have a clearer understanding of faith in the life of a believer, and you'll have an infinitely better perspective of God as He is in Scripture.

I think then we may have an easier time trusting and walking by faith! This is one of the best non-fiction books I've read this year, and I think you'll say the same once you've read "Big God".

I'm giving "Big God" five out of five bookmarks, with a big orange Sharpie as a charm--not sure why, but a LOT of the books I'm reading lately have orange covers! Kind of weird, really!
