Love is a Battlefield by Annalisa Daughety

I'm not big on Christian romance novels, but I am big on new author Annalisa Daughtey. She shows unique premise and voice in this genre, and I look forward to reading this entire series.

"Love is a Battlefield" is the first book in the "Walk in the Park" series, with romance set in our National Parks. I know...cool, huh?? The first story is that of Kristy O'Neal, living out every woman's worst nightmare...

...being left at the altar. When her soon-to-be hubby breaks it off minutes before the ceremony, Kristy takes off on her once-was-honeymoon to ease her broken heart before returning to the job she loves.

Only to find out that job is no longer hers now. Instead, she's bumped back to seasonal park ranger, hoping that something opens up at the end of the summer season or she's not only out of work...she'll be out of her home.

So it's no wonder she shoots daggers at newest ranger, Ace Kennedy. He's mystified at the hostility he feels radiating from Kristy, and would do just about anything to replace that frown of frustration with smiles of delight.

But, like the men in Kristy's past, he is hiding something. And that one factor keeps her from letting go of her heart. Is there such a thing as a soul mate for Kristy, or should she just settle for what's comfortable and easy?

I like Annalisa's storytelling ability for three reasons: her unique setting, the obvious message of faith that isn't buried beneath the hearts and flowers of romance, and the love is subtle and not over the top and unrealistic.

I had two issues with her: some of the writing seemed a bit stiff, like she hadn't quite found her grove just yet...and that NAME! 'Ace' is a nickname...kind of like 'Sport' or 'Scooter'. I had to keep calling him Alex or Andrew to keep taking him seriously.

But hey, that's just me and my quirk for realism amidst the pages of the book...in all, I am looking forward to more from this new author. My thanks to the people at Barbour publishing, Angie in particular, for my copy!

I'm giving "Love is a Battlefield" four out of five bookmarks, with a ranger hat as a charm. My husband said the cover image resembles a blond Sandra Bullock. I could go for that as my heroine!

Happy Reading!

I liked this one too. I didn't think it was stellar, but it was simply a nice, light read. I'm looking forward to more from her.

Great review! This book sounds like a fun read. I agree about the girl on the cover--she does look a little like Sandra Bullock!
