Startling Beauty by Heather Gemmen WIlson

Everyone asks the same question: "Where is God when the bad things happen?" or some variation of that question. My response is that He is always there, watching over us and keeping the far worse from occurring...and surprising us with "Startling Beauty".

Heather Gemmen Wilson's book is a gorgeous and honest illustration of Romans 8:28. She tells her story of being raped in her own home, in her own bed, with her children sleeping just down the hall.

That alone is enough to push a woman to the brink of sanity...but Heather's story continues. Discovering she is pregnant, Heather and her husband Steve face the choice of what to do next.

Their journey is one of honesty, hope, despair and pain amidst great blessing and triumph. Heather hides nothing and does not candy coat one sliver of her story. Amazing faith in the face of unbelievable horror--that's what you'll find in Heather's story.

Not only that, but a picture of unconditional love as well. After reading Heather's book, I discovered a woman I can relate to in my own pain. I'd love to take her out for coffee and just talk about life, faith, and how it all comes together in this messy world we live in.

I know I'd get honest answers and no auto-platitudes from Heather. She has walked her faith journey, being carried at times by Christ Himself. But she has not given up, not turned back, and not surrendered a shred of territory to the enemy.

Heather can truly say what the enemy meant for harm God meant for good, and for His glory. I'm moved and inspired by Heather's story, and I think you will be as well. For women who've suffered abuse or rape, I believe Heather's story can bring healing into your lives.

I highly recommend "Startling Beauty" to you. I'm giving it five out of five bookmarks, with a set of pink booties as a charm. Heather is now one of my favorite people...please take a peek at her book!

Oh, yeah...Steve's pretty amazing as well:-) As I read the book, I kept thinking of Joseph...what a guy!

Happy Reading!
