O Little Town by Don Reid

Photobucket

Journey back through Christmas past with one of the founding members of the award winning Country music quartet, the Statler Brothers. Don Reid's debut fiction novel reads like a classic country song from this beloved group--only richer and deeper.

With smooth transitions between Christmas present, Christmas past and Christmas long ago---within a 50 year span at least--Don takes us back to small town living and small town values.

These include knowing your neighbor--and knowing your neighbor's business. What's in their business? Oh, lots of things!

...an unplanned pregnancy, and a quick proposal...

...a long standing friendship that threatens to turn into more...

...a troubled pastor's family and a public disgrace...

...a long standing feud between siblings that carries over into parental care decisions...

...and a murder? Oh, yes--even that!

This delightful story is multi-layered and reminiscent of Jan Karon's Mitford novels and Charlene Baumbich's Dearest Dorothy stories. I enjoyed my time in "O Little Town" so much I forgot where I was for awhile.

Take time to savor each page of this wonderful holiday story, and maybe you'll be able to transcend your troubles for a bit. I'd love to see this turn into a series...one can always hope!

Till then, I'm giving "O Little Town" four out of five bookmarks with a package of bobby pins (remember those?) as a charm. If you remember and enjoy the music of the Statler Brothers, you'll absolutely fall in love with this little book. I guarantee it!

Happy Reading!

Great review, Deena. I grew up on Statler Brothers music, and have been eagerly anticipating this book since I first saw it on Amazon.
