Fall Into Fantasy Fiction Festival Featuring George Bryan Polivka!!

Photobucket

Our first featured fantasy author is one of my favorites--he's created a world of pirates to rival that of Captain Jack Sparrow, and his books transport you to a world of swashbuckling heroes and fantastical adventures--and you never have to leave port!

Introducing George Bryan Polivka!

George Bryan Polivka was raised in the Chicago area, attended Bible college in Alabama, and ventured on to Europe where he studied under Francis Schaeffer at L’Abri Fellowship in Switzerland. He then returned to Alabama where he enrolled at Birmingham-Southern College as an English major.

While still in school, Bryan married Jeri, his only sweetheart since high school, and now his wife of 27 years. He also was offered a highly coveted internship at a local television station which led him to his first career as an award-winning television producer.

In 1986, Bryan won an Emmy for writing his documentary, “A Hard Road to Glory,” which detailed the difficult path African Americans traveled to achieve recognition through athletic success during times of racial prejudice and oppression.

Bryan and his family eventually moved to the Baltimore area where he worked with Sylvan Learning Systems, (now Laureate Education). In 2001 Bryan was honored by the U.S. Distance Learning Association for the most significant achievement by an individual in corporate e-Learning. Bryan is currently responsible for developing and delivering new programs for Laureate’s online higher education division.

Bryan and Jeri live near Baltimore with their two children, Jake and Aime.

ARRRRGH. Pirates! Swashbuckling. Ships, swords and sailing. What's not to love? (grin)

I have heard fabulous things about Legend of the Firefish. The whole series looks fabulous.

I've never heard of this author or his books. I knew I'd be seeing lots of new books/authors with the Fantasy theme seeing as I never read much fantasy. I've really started getting into it a bit more.

Pirates are awesome. The whole adventure aspect not necesarilly the pillaging aspect. I'd love to read a pirate story. The only pirate books I've ever read are Peter Pan and the Peter and the
Starcatchers books.

I'm not sure I actually do like them. But I've gained a different perceptive on them from reading MaryLu Tyndall's pirate books. The
encyclopedia doesn’t talk so favorably about them!

Does that count?

I've heard alot about this series but haven't had a chance to read them. I'd love a chance to win.

Pirate stories are fun for me because they are a journey to a world where I can become part a character's life that is so opposite of myself. I am the one who will stand back and observe instead of jumping into the middle of things or pushing my way in. Sometimes a good things others not so good but Pirates whether male or female are in the thick of whatever adventure is going on and even the women are very strong personalities that make themselves visible and forces to be reckoned with. Unless they are the bumbling sort brought in for comic relief but those characters are just as important and appealing in a different sort of way.

I like pirates because they are out of the ordinary, say "arrrrr", and generally amuse me in cartoons :)

Wow! I've never heard of these books before :). They sound wonderful. My 5 yr old daughter LOVES pirates...I think she gets it from her aunties who are obsessed with Patrick Henry stories ;). She likes to play pirate dress up when she visits them.

I love reading about them and their ships. It amazes me how they could sail all over the ocean and know where they were going by using the stars. Thanks:)

Okay Deena - pirates - who hasn't spent a little time either wishing they could be a pirate or at least have a good sword-fight with one! There is something incredibly exciting about life aboard a ship anyway, but to sail as a pirate? Well that is a daring, unpredictable adventure! Please enter me in this drawing!

Thanks!

Whenever I think about pirates he takes me back in time. My two youngest sons ALWAYS loved to dress up as Peter Pan and Captain Hook and play. BUT...their one rule was that Captain Hook HAD to be good and not bad. They were so cute ~ and the time has flown so quickly!

I'd love to be entered to win this trilogy!
