Match Point by Erynn Mangum

Photobucket

Ever read a book and have a melancholy joy fall over you? That's what happened to me as I turned the final page of this lively conclusion to the Lauren Holbrook series by Erynn Mangum. I love these people...I want to be part of the group!

I fell in love with Erynn's writing and her whimsical heroine Lauren in "Miss Match". Having discovered her innate sense of matchmaking, Lauren set out to pair up friends and co-workers in her highly humorous style.

Then came "Re-Match", where more hilarity ensued and Erynn's message of faith in Christ bathed every word of this delightful story. Oh, how I longed for a group of friends as wacky, faithful and faith-filled as this bunch!

Now, we conclude with "Match Point"...a bittersweet moment for me as a reader. I wanted to savor each morsel of writing, but just could. not. put. it. down--except to wipe away the tears of laughter:-)

What's a matchmaker to do when the tables are turned on her...and she finds herself to be the one who's matched up? When Lauren's successful couples decide she needs Ryan and Ryan needs her, her world tilts on its axis just a tad.

From a girls' weekend that turns into a kidnapping, to a staged walk in the woods, you'll be rolling with laughter at the wit and tongue in cheek humor found in these pages.

Ryan and Lauren don't just sit idly by, either. Together, they hatch a plan of revenge on their would-be matchmakers that is wildly creative...but is it successful? And do they want to fool their well-meaning friends...or is everyone on the right page, with the exception of the couple in question?

Erynn has a natural voice that pours from the pages. Her humor is sharp and quick, and the characters she's created in this series are some of the most delightful I've encountered in my reading journey.

The deep message of faith and trust in God for everything is evident in every chapter, and if our churches had singles' ministries as healthy as the one Erynn has created, our churches might be in much better spiritual shape!

You just can't miss with this series! I'm so glad I discovered Erynn, and I cannot WAIT to see what she comes up with next. I hope she hurries, though...I need another book with her name on the cover:-)

I'm giving "Miss Match" five out of five bookmarks, with an Elvis as a charm...and I'm voting the entire "Lauren Holbrook series" my Best Chick-Lit of 2008 award!

Happy Reading!

Deena
