Beloved Castaway by Kathleen Y'Barbo (AND A GIVEAWAY)

Photobucket

Once again, I'm catching up on those books that were pushed to the way back of my to be read shelf! And, while I myself am not a historical fiction fan, I know many of YOU are, so here's a gem I don't want you to miss!

"Beloved Castaway" is a historical romance unlike any I've ever read. God's presence permeates Kathleen's writing, with her characters praying and quoting Scripture to get them through the trials that threaten to overtake them. These fictional women are fleshed out so richly that they literally become your companions on this journey.

Isabelle Gayarre is an illegitimate young woman desperate to find and fulfill God's calling in her life. Strong in her faith, she books passage on a ship sailing for England, and will make this journey at any cost, even her own freedom.

Traveling with her half sister, whom she has just reconnected with (long story--read prologue!) and a runaway bride (yet another back story), Isabelle boards the Jude, a sailing vessel destined for England.

She believes her calling is to reach the abolitionists in England (reminiscent of "Amazing Grace", the motion picture), and entrusts her journey to a sea captain that is beyond godless.

Josiah Carter, said captain, doesn't know what to make of this woman. He is both intrigued and repelled by her, and ultimately, loses his heart. Question is, just how committed to God is Isabelle, and just how hard with Josiah run from Him?

Rich with descriptive writing and filled with characters that are more than meets the eye, Kathleen Y'Barbo has written a journey that will take you places you can only imagine.

Be warned...Kathleen has many threads running throughout this story, and not all are tied up neat and tidy at the end of the book! However, I'm hearing that "Beloved Castaway" is only the beginning, so for historical fiction fans, this is EXTREMELY good news.

I'm giving "Beloved Castaway" four out of five bookmarks, and only because historical just isn't my cup of tea. You, however, just may rate it higher...which is why I'm giving away TWO copies of this novel on March 15th!!

So leave me a comment...and you just might win!

Happy Reading!

Deena
