Guardian of the Veil by Gregory Spencer

It's been several years, but Gregory Spencer has released the sequel to "The Welkening", a book that blew me away when I first read it. Fantasy fiction for teens and young adults, it took four troubled teens into another world where they found themselves as worth something.

What is considered weakness in our world the four teens find as strengths in the world of Welken. Overcoming their "hang-ups" leads them to triumph and help save that world from evil.

Now, Mr. Spencer has written "Guardian of the Veil". All four teens are back: Lizbeth, Angie, Bennu and Len--known as the Misfits. Their experiences from their first adventure have changed them, but some things are still the same.

Back home, they are bored. Again.

But certain signs make them wonder...has Welken and its wonders followed them home? Are the two worlds about to collide, and what will happen if they do? What role do they play in all of it, and are they up for it this time?

Proof that teens need to know they matter, both "The Welkening" and "Guardian of the Veil" open our eyes to that need. We were all created for a purpose, and as adults, we need to help teens find that purpose and then build them up to fulfill that purpose.

About The Author: Dr. Gregory Spencer is professor of communication studies at Westmont College in Southern California. He specializes in rhetorical theory and criticism, religious rhetoric, and media ethics. Dr. Spencer's teaching has been noted for its creativity. According to one former student, "His words do not merely paint pictures, they provide eyes to see the pictures that have always been before us. In this sense, his classroomis no less than a portal into a transformed world."

I recommend this series for lovers of good, rich fantasy. Thank you, Dr. Spencer, for taking the time to write this wonderful series of novels. I give "Guardian of the Veil" four out of five bookmarks, and I think it's a great gift for fans of Narnia or any Hobbit lover:-)

Happy Reading!
