Several years ago I devoured a series by Francine Rivers entitled "The Mark of the Lion". It was historical, phenomenal, and I've searced high and low for something of it's caliber.
I'm pleased to say...I'VE FOUND IT!!!
Lisa Tawn Bergren has authored many, many books--but none brought me the reading pleasure of "The Begotten: A Novel of the Gifted". Set in the year 1339, it is a chronicle of the early church unlike any other.
In his writings, the Apostle Paul alludes to another letter he wrote to the church at Corinth. This letter was not canonized into Scripture, but much speculation about the contents of the letter has occurred.
In this book, the letter has been found and what it contains could change the church...or destroy the ones who fulfill the prophecy of the letter. Called The Gifted, it tells of a group of believers who are extremely gifted. Each bears a gifting unique to only them--one heals, one has discernment, one has the gift of prophecy, etc.
The time has come for them to gather and fulfill their calling. But much is still unknown about their task...and they must race against time and battle the Church along their path to discovery and fulfillment.
And there is still another enemy afoot...a dark, dangerous enemy who does only evil and who wants to harness the power of The Gifted. Will this enemy succeed? Or will the church capture and contain them before they can fulfill their callings?
The success of their mission for God will determine the future of the Church...and some will go to any lengths to stop them.
Heartpounding and rich in history and imagery...this is a trilogy you WON'T want to miss!! "The Begotten" gets six out of five bookmarks from me...with a peacock charm. And once again...you'll have to read it to find out why! I'm voting The Gifted trilogy as "Best Historical Fiction of 2007"!!
Happy Reading!

Deena,
You can't believe how much I treasure your comments because Frani's Mark of the Lion is STILL one of my top 10 Christian fiction reads of all time. So...to have you compare my trilogy to hers makes me very happy.
Have a wonderful day. You made mine!
Love,
Lisa T. Bergren
