Eric Wilson has hit his stride with the Aramis Black novels. I do think I enjoy him above some of the bigger names in Christian suspense!! Mr. Wilson has quickly become a master at the art of suspense.
We met Aramis in "The Best of Evil". We learned of his family history, and of the death of his mother when he was only six. We watched him begin to work out his salvation with fear and trembling.
Now we watch the fruits of that work in "A Shred of Truth". Aramis is taking a philosophy course in the study of truth. He and his two classmates are working on separating legends from lies from truth.
Then he himself falls prey to an urban legend---or does he? Who is behind the "AX" carved into his brother? And why does this mysterious symbol keep appearing in relation to Aramis?
Shadows from his past keep lurking around corners, and his past threatens to take him over. Can his fledging faith keep him from taking matters into his own hands? And is the truth facing him, or is he staring a lie square in the face?
Aramis Black is a character that you both love and get majorly frustrated with at the same time. His angst is yours, and his struggles are picture perfect images of our own struggle between the old man and the new.
With excellent foreshadowing and skillful manipulation of the storyline, Eric Wilson keeps us guessing from start to finish. One helpful suggestion when reading one of his novels: don't trust anyone:-)
"A Shred of Truth" gets five out of five bookmarks from me. I hope we haven't heard the last of Aramis Black and company!!
