About the Book:
“I hear that becoming a cowboy can be dangerous. Especially if you don't know the rules.
I don’t know the rules.”
It’s a good thing Conrad brought his Mega Ultimate Extreme First Aid Kit to Uncle Clint’s ranch because learning how to be a cowboy turns out to be a lot harder—and more painful—than he thought. Conrad has a lot to learn – including don’t squat with spurs on and never wave your red sweatshirt at a bull.
But the biggest challenge of all is dealing with Imogene Louise Lathrup, the know-it-all-cowgirl next door. When Imogene shows up, she is all too happy to point out Conrad’s shortcomings. In this follow-up to their debut hit Pirates on the Farm, author Denette Fretz and illustrator Gene Barretta team up once again to tell a humorous tale about what it means to love your neighbor.
My Thoughts:
What a fun book! I loved everything, from the cover design to the illustrations to the story itself. "Conrad and the Cowgirl Next Door" reminded me of "Alexander and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day", only the exact opposite in response.
When Conrad's adventure to Uncle Clint's ranch seems fraught with hazards and the unknown, Conrad takes it like a champ and with a good outlook. He's rather fond of his Mega Ultimate Extreme First Aid Kit, and he ends up using it quite a few times.
He's not so fond of the cowgirl next door Imogene Louise Lathrup and her sarcastic tone and constant criticism. But he responds with kindness and a sense of optimism. And the illustrations help tell the story in full color and humor.
Apparently Denette and Gene are a fantastic team, so I'm on the hunt for other children's books crafted by this dynamic duo. In the meantime, my thanks to my friends at Zonderkiz, a division of Zondervan Publishing, for my gorgeous complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, I can't hardly wait for Christmas to read this one to my grandson...he is SO getting this book for Christmas!!
Happy Reading!
