Somebody Like You by Beth K. Vogt

About the Book:

Can a young widow find love again with her husband’s reflection?

Haley’s three-year marriage to Sam, an army medic, ends tragically when he’s killed in Afghanistan. Her attempts to create a new life for herself are ambushed when she arrives home one evening—and finds her husband waiting for her. Did the military make an unimaginable mistake when they told her Sam was killed?

Too late to make things right with his estranged twin brother, Stephen discovers Sam never told Haley about him. As Haley and Stephen navigate their fragile relationship, they are inexorably drawn to each other. How can they honor the memory of a man whose death brought them together—and whose ghost could drive them apart?

Somebody Like You is a beautifully rendered, affecting novel, reminding us that while we can’t change the past, we have the choice to change the future and start anew.

My Thoughts:

I've always enjoyed Beth's novels...but this one packs an unexpected emotional punch that takes your breath away.  If you've ever dealt with family squabbles that have led to estrangement, then buckle up.  If you haven't, prepare to learn how difficult life can be when family is disconnected.

Haley is so sweet and vulnerable she just makes you want to reach into the pages and wrap her in a warm, tender hug.  I cannot imagine going through all she's endured, and the shock of finding Stephen on her doorstep is priceless.

Stephen is the kind of man you want your daughters to meet one day.  He's thoughtful, kind and determined, and he's passionate about God and family.  But to meet someone who is practically identical to the one you've loved and lost...mind blowing.

The story is crisply written, without a single wasted word.  Have the tissues handy when you open the first page, and keep them by your side until the final page is turned.  Beth has crafted a novel that is packed with emotion, faith and a sprinkle of humor.  "Somebody Like You" goes on my keeper shelf.  This is a book you can love, and then pick up for another read and you'll love it all over again.

My thanks to Howard Publishing for my advance copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  "Somebody Like You" is highly, highly recommended!

Happy Reading!
