Stress Test by Richard Mabry, M.D.

About the Book:

THEY MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO CONVICT HIM, BUT THEY HAVE ENOUGH TO RUIN HIS LIFE.

Dr. Matt Newman thought he was leaving his life as a surgeon in private practice for a better one in academic medicine. But the kidnappers who attacked him as he left the hospital at 2 a.m. have no such plans—they just want him dead. Bound and in the trunk of his car, Matt’s only thought is fleeing with his life. He does escape, but at a price: a head injury that lands him in the ICU . . . where he awakens to discover he’s being charged with murder.

Sandra Murray is a fiery, redheaded lawyer who swore she was done with doctors after her last relationship. But when Matt calls, she knows she can’t walk away from defending someone who is truly innocent.

Matt’s career is going down the drain. His freedom and perhaps his life may be next. But with the police convinced he’s a killer and the kidnappers still trying to finish what they started, finding the truth—and the faith to keep going—will be the toughest stress test Matt has ever endured

My Thoughts:

This is the first novel by Dr. Mabry for me, and I enjoyed every page.  He has crafted some intense drama rich with authentic medical detail, and crafted memorable characters you'll find yourself praying for even though you know they aren't real.

Matt is easy to love.  You'll feel for him from the moment he walks into that parking garage until the end of the book.  He's a dedicated doctor caught in a scenario that would make even the strongest quake with fear and uncertainty.

Sandra is my kind of attorney.  If I ever find myself on the wrong side of the law I want her on my team!  She's a bulldog when she gets a client, and she's passionate about God and about the truth.  She's pretty, too, which catches more than one doctor's eye.

Elaine is the ideal assistant, and I enjoyed watching her work on Matt's case.  Rick is a good friend, and Joe is the best big brother, even from a long off mission field.  Wanted to kick Detective Grimes in the leg for all of his...oh, spoiler...can't go there.

This is a suspense read that not only will have you guessing who done it but why'd they do it in the first place?  Dr. Mabry is good at giving you just enough to keep you reading but never giving away the plot...but it all makes sense in the end.

I received a copy of "Stress Test" (a very apt title, as I was very stressed trying to unravel the mystery!) from Thomas Nelson in exchange for my participation in a blog tour with LitFuse Publicity and an honest review.

This may have been my first Dr. Mabry novel, but it won't be the last.  "Stress Test" is highly recommended...I just don't recommend starting it at bedtime.  Unless you don't mind staying up into the late hours to finish.  'Cause you won't be able to put it down...I'm warning you!

Happy Reading!
