Heaven Hears by Lindy Boone Michaelis with Suzy Flory

About the Book:

On June 19, 2001, Ryan Corbin, grandson of Pat Boone, accidently stepped through a skylight and fell three stories onto a cement floor. When he broke through that roof, Ryan fell into a very different life from the one he had before as the beloved son of Lindy Boone Michaelis and first grandson of entertainment icon Pat Boone.

As Ryan lingered between life and death in intensive care at UCLA Medical Center, Pat and Lindy decided to take action, in a big way; they went on Larry King Live, shared their faith, and asked millions of TV viewers to pray for Ryan.

And so, they prayed.

Heaven Hears is an unbelievable story of answered prayer—and it’s not over yet. This book will inspire you to look for answers to prayer and to see God’s miracles.

My Thoughts:

My husband often tells our church (he's the pastor) that, when believers go through painful trials and stretching experiences, they get to know God in a way the rest of us may never know Him.  That point is beautifully illustrated in Lindy Boone Michaelis' book about her son Ryan and a tragic accident that changed their family forever.

The book shares quite a bit from Lindy's early years as the second oldest daughter of Pat and Shirley Boone.  The details of her childhood and memories of her parents and their faith are interesting background.

But the story truly kicks into high gear when she shares about a tragic day in June 2001 when her oldest son Ryan fell through a skylight and landed three stories below on a concrete slab.  That fall should have taken his life.  Ryan should be in a vegetative state if he'd survived.

He's alive.  He's thriving.  And, while he still has a road of recovery ahead of him, Ryan Corbin is a walking, talking miracle.  All of America heard his story on "Larry King Live", America's best known and most likely favorite CNN broadcast.

At the invitation of Larry, Pat and his daughter went on the show to speak about Ryan's accident and to ask everyone to pray for his life and his recovery.  What follows after that memorable broadcast is the bulk of Lindy's book.  It's a broadcast I still remember watching...and I remember praying.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Heaven Hears".  The book is honest and is very vocal about the power of prayer.  Lindy doesn't sugar coat any detail...she shares from her heart and from her personal journal about those painful days, both the positive and the not so positive moments.

I received a copy of "Heaven Hears" by participating in the Tyndale Blog Network program (in fact, I received two copies--the first one omitted the pages about the accident and immediate events--thank you, Tyndale!) in exchange for an honest review.

Much has been said about the power of prayer and healing.  This is one of the best testimonies I've read, and I urge you to get a copy.  All proceeds from the sale of "Heaven Hears" will go to the non-profit group formed by Lindy and her family to help victims of traumatic brain injury (Ryan's Reach).

"Heaven Hears" is powerful, moving and inspiring.  I highly recommend it.

Happy Reading!
