Her first two manuscripts remain firmly ensconced in the back of her closet (the dust bunnies tell her they really are terrific!). Her third attempt became her first published novel.

On the homefront, she has been married to the wonderful and handsome Lee for nearly twenty-five years now, and their two daughters are currently braving the worlds of high school and college.

My Thoughts:
Truthfully, when I first read about this one I thought, "REALLY? A reality show about being Amish?" Then I looked at the television listings for reality television shows and realized, "Hey, it could happen!"
If it does, Kathryn Cushman needs to be the head writer for the series. Actually, she needs to be the developer, producer, head writer, and casting director. Only she can do make it believable and worth the effort.
Kathryn has crafted a unique story filled with unforgettable characters. I could SO relate to Julie, and I have a few Susan's in my life! Watching these two women struggle with the demands of life and the need for perfection was like looking in a mirror.
And the kids...I fell in love with all of them, but Whitney...now, that's a girl after my own heart! She's a young woman for young girls to think about, standing up for the invisible and reaching out with her heart. Loved her to bits!
Kathryn paints the Amish lifestyle with realistic brushstrokes. It's all too easy to think Simple Living is...well, simple. It's just different. We can all learn a little from one another, but that 'grass is greener' attitude really gets us no where. Something Julie learns through her experience, and we can learn from reading the novel.
This is another winner from Kathryn; honestly, haven't read a novel she's written that I didn't love, but this one is unique. I received my copy from Bethany House Publishers through CFBA in exchange for my honest review. Highly recommended.
