Accused by Janice Cantore

From the Back of the Book:

Detective Carly Edwards hates working in juvenile—where the brass put her after an officer-involved shooting—and longs to be back on patrol. So when a troubled youth, Londy Atkins, is arrested for the murder of the mayor and Carly is summoned to the crime scene, she's eager for some action. Carly presses Londy for a confession but he swears his innocence, and despite her better judgment, Carly is inclined to believe him. Yet homicide is convinced of his guilt and is determined to convict him.

Carly's ex-husband and fellow police officer, Nick, appears to be on her side. He's determined to show Carly that he's a changed man and win her back, but she isn't convinced he won't betray her again.

As the investigation progresses, Carly suspects a cover-up and strikes out on her own, uncertain whom she can trust. But when danger mounts, she begins to wonder if she made the right choice.

My Thoughts:

Wow...and may I say again..WOW!  What a story!  Janice has her characters hitting the ground running from the prologue and the action never ends.  Officer Carly Edwards gets orders to juvenile crime and she is miserable.  Combined with her recent divorce and the strained relationship with her mom...and Carly feels life is just a bowl of cherries---the pits, anyway.

But when an undercover cop and friend approaches her with suspicions about a recent murder, Carly's investigative instincts rise to the challenge.  Before long, she's in over her head and dragging loved ones into the fray with her.

Rich with a strong faith message that isn't preachy or heavy-handed, "Accused" is an excellent police procedural and gripped me from page one and had me up into the night chasing down perps with Carly.

Right when you feel like you've gotten a handle on the direction of the story, Janice does a 180 on you and you're off again, chasing another lead and concerned who will be the next person to get hurt seeking justice.  And what a mind-blower of an ending!

I received my advance copy of "Accused" via NetGalley from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for an honest review.   I can honestly testify that I can hardly wait for Janice Cantore's next novel in this dynamic series...and my favorite characters had BETTER be back for more!

Highly recommended.

Happy Reading!
