The Corruptible by Mark Mynheir

In every course I studied on writing, the advice was the same: write what you know. Well, Mark Mynheir must know cops, crime and intrigue extremely well, because his novels are extremely enjoyable and engrossing! His second Ray Quinn mystery is as good as the first...maybe even a bit better!

Ray Quinn is an ex-homicide detective with a bum leg and a bad attitude. He's also a private investigator with some of the best sidekicks a guy could ask for. He may not be the easiest guy to get along with...but I love him just the same!

He's hung out a shingle, going into the P.I. business with Crevis, his former security partner and most unlikely ally. Crevis is young, inexperienced, and enthusiastic...he's also extremely loyal to the crusty ex-detective...which comes in handy often enough.

Ray's best friend is Jim...Beam, that is. Seems ol' Jim keeps the pain and the memories away somewhat. But when Ray finds himself holding a check in an amount that would pull his sorry hide out of debt and give him a fresh start...he smells something's off with the offer.

Seems simple enough: find ex-cop Logan Ramsey and recover the sensitive company information Ramsey swiped before he disappeared. Then cash in on his windfall, relax and ride off into the proverbial sunset.

Unfortunatey, nothing in Ray's life is simple anymore. Seems other people are intent on finding Logan as well...and someone got there first. Now Ray has a dead body and a twisted mystery on his hands.

Can he get to the bottom of the case...or will ol' Jim take Ray to the bottom of the bottle and leave him there to die? When it's nearly impossible to tell the white hats from the black hats...will Ray's expert detective skills return in time to solve the case and save the lives of his partner?

Sharp, witty and ascerbic describe Mark's writing in this one. Ray's got a sense of humor that got up on the wrong side of the bed, and I love it. Mark has a way of creating memorable characters that you either love or love to hate...or just can't get out of your head!

I was thrilled when Ray's last case turned into a series, and I'm eager for more from Mark Mynheir and Ray Quinn. I've read every single novel Mark's written, and I think the Ray Quinn mysteries may be my favorites!

My thanks to my friends at Multnomah for my advance copy. I'm giving "The Corruptible" five out of five bookmarks with an empty shot glass as a charm. Let's hear it for Ray giving up on Jim and turning to Jesus! (Hey, it could happen!)
