False Pretenses by Kathy Herman

I've been a huge fan of Kathy Herman for a long, long time. Her suspenseful stories have kept me up into the wee hours of the morning, so I knew when her newest novel arrived I needed to start reading early in the afternoon.

Just so you know...nothing kept me from that book...except dinner for the family! LOL!! I've been eager for "False Pretenses" for several months, watching Kathy's constant 'teases' about Cajun lingo and such on Facebook, and I'm glad to report her new "Secrets of the Roux River Bayou" series does not disappoint!

Zoe Broussard has worked hard to get where she is in life, and she'll do just about anything to keep her success going. Even hiding the truth from those she loves...until it seems someone has stumbled upon her secret.

Threatening notes push Zoe to confront her damaged past and to come clean...to an extent. What will it take to pursuade Zoe to finally live in the light of truth completely?

Vanessa and Ethan Langley survived the harrowing months living in Sophie Trace, and embark on a new life in Louisiana, on the Bayou. But fixing up Langley Manor and converting the old family treasure into a bed and breakfast seems insurmountable...

...especially when little Carter meets 'The Candy Man'. Is he real, or a part of Carter's imagination? And what will it take to uncover the truth about this mysterious and unwelcome visitor in the Langley home?

Secrets abound in Cajun country...hence the series title, I'm sure! Ever have the truth hide in shadow in your own life? Watching Zoe struggle to acknowledge her past and confess her secrets was painful, reminding me of my own mish-mash of younger years.

But living a lie takes its toll...as Zoe soon finds out. What a twist Kathy throws in mid-way through the story! Didn't see that one coming...which is what makes a Kathy Herman novel a great investment for your 'must read' list!

I'm eager for more from Louisiana and the friends I've made in this new series, as well as getting re-aquainted with old friends from past novels. But no worries...you can begin enjoying Kathy's talent HERE...then get caught up on past novels...which you MUST DO!

For now, I'm giving "False Pretenses" five out of five bookmarks, with a lemon drop as a charm...yuppers, the book is that good--and that's NO LIE! My thanks to Kathy for my special, autographed copy of her novel...and to my friends at Wynn-Wynn Media for an extra to give away...be watching for your chance to win!

Happy Reading!
