So Over It by Stephanie Morrill

Author Stephanie Morrill is definitely one of the premiere voices in Christian teen fiction! While I had some issues with her first book in "The Reinvention of Skylar Hoyt", I learned to FINISH the series before opening my mouth.

I've finished the series.

And may I say...WOW!

"So Over It" follows Skylar, now a graduate and still trying to find her footing as a new creation in Christ. I'm not big on spoilers, but let's just say she's got a lot of baggage she needs to unload at the foot of the cross!

When Skylar chooses to spend the summer with her grandparents in Hawaii rather than stay and face herself, things seem to be easing up a bit. Joining her for the first few days is her entire family.

Skylar's grandmother means well, but fixing her up on her first day with the new guy across the street? Justin is nice and all, but can Skylar stop thinking about Connor long enough to give Justin a chance?

And is Justin who he represents himself to be?

Is running away the answer, or is she better off going back home to Kansas and facing her past, her fears...and her ex?

With humor and heart, Stephanie has created a young woman that will strike a chord in the hearts of many readers. Little sister Abbie was annoying as all get-out, but she finally grew on me!

I adored Heather and enjoyed getting to know more of her story as well, and she has always been there for Skylar, something I've admired. Amy and Brian, Connor's parents, are the kind of believers I hope my kids find when they visit their friends.

And something I will take away from this entire series...we need to walk the path of faith with each other, ESPECIALLY our new believing brothers and sisters. I know Skylar isn't real, but we have lots of young believers who need authentic discipleship that comes from the heart and not from another notch on our Bibles.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Stephanie has planned next, and I'm going to miss Skylar and her gang of friends. I'd recommend this series for older teens, but if your tween has seen some things that have left confusion or scars, read this series with him or her.

I'm a big fan of reading what your kids are reading...for many reasons. Talk about creating conversation!

"So Over It" gets five out of five bookmarks from me with a mini sewing kit as a charm. Another thing to take away from this series...when God gives you a talent, use it, and let Him worry about the impact it will have. What seems small and insignificant to you may be just what someone needs.

My thanks to my good friend Donna at Revell for the chance to read this book. "So Over It" is available now from Revell Publishing. And don't miss the first two books in the series, "Me, Just Different" and "Out With the In Crowd", also from Revell.

Happy Reading!

As a parent I am a huge fan of parents reading to kids, and kids and parents reading together.

When children are read to and then engaged in a meaningful discussion about what they are read, their reading and cognitive abilities are strengthened. Studies prove that children who are read to do better in school in every subject.
