With humor, candor and charm, Karen Spears Zacharias takes on the prosperity gospel and its proponents, poking major holes in the theology. In today's economic climate, this is one of the most fitting books published today.
Karen asks the question, "What does it really mean to be blessed by God?", then proceeds to answer both what it is and what it's not. Through profiles and anecdotes, she takes the fine art of story-telling and applies it to the truth of peoples' lives.
Some of the stories paint a vivid picture of the greedy side of the Christian life. Pastors, preachers and teachers who have taken Scripture and chased after materialism and wealth are exposed without naming names.
Other stories are told of people who live with a servant's heart, modeling lives filled with integrity and Biblical truth. Many of the profiles shared in the book had me in tears--and some had me chuckling.
I've never read a book by Karen Spears Zacharias, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. While many may take issue with her position on prosperity and the Christian life, I found it filled with truth and completely refreshing. I think if you give her an opportunity, she may change how you'd answer her question (see above).
I'm giving "Will Jesus Buy Me a Double Wide" five out of five bookmarks, with a question mark as a charm. Thanks to Zondervan for my copy!
