Two Brides Too Many by Mona Hodgson

One good thing always comes out me reading a historical novel....I'm ALWAYS glad I live today and not way back then! Imagine having to travel clear across the United States, not knowing who or what waited for you on the other side...and with no promise of indoor plumbing!

"Two Brides Too Many" begins the saga of the Sinclair sisters. The two oldest, Kat and Nell, are making their way from Portland, Maine to Cripple Creek, Colorado as mail-order brides. With only a tintype photograph and a handful of letters, both young women are staking their futures on a promise.

Unfortunately, the two sisters are missing their two misters. With no one to greet them as them arrive at the station, the two young women are left to fend for themselves. And the first order of business: help the town put out the second fire experienced in a matter of days.

With strength, wisdom, sisterhood and faith, the Sinclair sisters meet their challenges head on. Question is, will love await them some day in Cripple Creek? And if so, who will the new misters be?

Mona does a fine job fleshing out these two very likable characters. This is one of the shortest novels I've read in awhile, but she accomplishes a lot in a few chapters. I adored Boney, and almost saw him as an angel in disguise.

I'm not fond of historicals, but this is one worth reading. I'm giving "Two Brides Too Many" three out of four bookmarks, with a telegram as a charm. Thanks to my friends at Waterbrook for my complimentary copy!

Happy Reading!
