The Church That Prays Together by Elmer Towns and Daniel Henderson

Again, I've found a jewel of a book that gives working examples of praying churches, and it's one that will spark a renewed passion for prayer in your life.

Daniel Henderson and Elmer Towns together researched churches that pray together as part of their ministry. Ten churches were selected as profiles in prayer, each unique in their prayer ministry.

"The Church That Prays Together" gives glimpses into well-known churches (Brooklyn Tabernacle, Thomas Road Baptist) and lesser-known churches (Vietnamese Baptist Church, Arcade Baptist Church) and focuses on the prayer ministry taking place in each church.

Arcade has a dynamic women's prayer ministry, sparked by three women who were obedient to God even when it didn't seem to make sense. Thomas Road was built by prayer, led by Pastor Jerry Falwell to bathe each request, need and move in prayer.

With such a variety of examples, how can a church NOT have a vital prayer ministry? Only through a lack of desire...that's how. The authors include a variety of ideas for prayer ministry in the closing chapter of the book, as well as a glossary of terms often used in prayer or in description of prayer.

I was refreshed as I read story after story of God working in response to the prayers of His people. I was encouraged about our own burgeoning prayer ministry at our church. I was enlightened as to just how many ways we can encourage prayer in our churches, and how each meets a different need.

I'm giving "The Church That Prays Together" five out of five bookmarks, with a set of blank index cards as a charm...you can use these for requests, and create your own Wailing Wall...gotta read the book to know what I mean!

Happy Reading!
