To Save a Life by Jim and Rachel Britts

My husband and I were privileged to attend an early screening of this independent film, scheduled to release in January 2010. When I learned there was a novelization, I had to get my hands on a copy.

The people at Outreach Publishing were gracious and shipped me a copy, and I immediately dug in. It's been a long time since I was this excited about a Christian film. If you can't get to a theater to see the movie, then most definitely get your hands on the book.

Almost word for word, "To Save A Life" captures the movie perfectly. It's the story of Jake Taylor and his best friend Roger Dawson. The two grew up together and did everything together...

...until junior high came along. Then Jake found his way into the world of sports and popularity...leaving Roger--handicapped by a limp--trailing in his dust. By high school, the two spoke once in their Freshman year and then went their separate ways.

Senior year comes. A tragedy sets Jake back on his heels, and has him rethinking life. What's the point? Who cares about anyone? What is his purpose? If being popular and going to parties is it, then count Jake out.

This novel is real, gritty, and will change you if you'll let it. "To Save a Life" doesn't shy away from the issues that face today's teens: alcohol, sex, violence, bullying--it's covered.

Don't be shocked by some mild language. It isn't gratuitous, but it will rattle some cages. I fully expect this movie to be surrounded by controversy...but I'm praying I'm wrong. Nothing is overblown or thrown in for 'shock' value.

The book perfectly captures the movie. To a 't'. If you want to understand today's youth culture...if you want to be more effective in reaching today's unchurched youth...if you want to see how to live for Christ genuinely...read "To Save a Life".

If you're easily shocked or offended, you might want to take a pass. Which, honestly, would be a shame. But be warned..."To Save a Life" pulls no punches. It's raw, it's real...and it just may save a life.

Happy Reading!
