The Last Word by Kathy Herman

Kathy Herman is always on my 'must read' list, and I haven't found a novel written by Kathy that has ever disappointed me.

The second novel in her hew Sophie Trace series focuses on Police Chief Brill and her oldest daughter, Vanessa. She's off at college and finding her own way in the world. Her relationship with God has grown shallow, and now she is in a situation that can only stay hidden for so long.

Trouble is, Chief Jessup has more on her plate of concerns besides her oldest. Emily, the youngest Jessup child, is still suffering from PTSD due to events that took place in "The Real Enemy" (the first novel). And as if that isn't enough...

...someone is killing off police officers. Could Chief Jessup be next?

You make a lot of enemies when you're in law enforcement. Can the force find out who the culprit is before more lives are taken? And is the city council going to pull the plug on Chief Jessup, leaving her family at risk financially as well as in terms of their safety?

With her trademark 'keep you guessing' writing, Kathy takes pity on us and reveals the killer mid-way through the story. But you barely have time to catch your breath before she's off again with the curve balls in every chapter.

I do have a hard time connecting with Chief Brill Jessup. I think it's due to her name. But Emily and the rest of the Jessup clan more than make up for my dysfunction with the police chief. And oh yeah...she's NOT REAL!

I'm giving "The Last Word" five out of five bookmarks, with a menu from my new favorite cafe...only wish Nick and company were real. That is a place I'd love to have a tasty meal...even if Gus were sitting next to me on the stool at the counter.

Oh, yeah...these people AREN'T REAL! Keep forgetting that! Thanks to Audra Jennings at B&B Media and Kathy Herman for my reviewer copy...can't wait for the third book to release!

And you shouldn't wait any longer! Get out there and put Kathy Herman on your 'must read' list. You won't be sorry...I guarantee it!

Happy Reading!

Great review. I had a hard time with it. I didn't connect with Brill either and I wonder if it's because I hadn't read the first one. I think fans of the series and author will love it though.
