Fading Tracks by Kristi Holl

With nieces and nephews of all ages, I'm always on the lookout for good, healthy fiction. Looking at the variety of books available in the general market and the lack in the Christian market can be discouraging.

That's why I'm thrilled to introduce you to an author that's new to me, and a series that has just enough suspense to keep a tween's attention. "Fading Tracks" is the first in the 'Boarding School Mysteries', a series by Kristi Holl.

In the first book, Jeri McKane is a sixth grade student at a prestigious boarding school for girls. There on a scholarship, Jeri feels a bit like a fish out of water...similar to the others attending on scholarship as well.

Together the four have planned a media project, putting together their own student newspaper, with each girl tackling a different area. Rosa is doing the advice column, and when she doesn't arrive back at the school on time from a field trip, Jeri's frustration with her roommate builds.

What began as frustration turns to panic when the school van never arrives, and no one has spotted it or the students since they entered a two mile road known as 'the Stretch'.

Where could the van have gone? Into the frozen river? How can the girls and the driver survive the frigid cold, with more snow on the way? Was it a kidnapping, or an accident?

Jeri is on the case, like it or not. And the Head Mistress of the school doesn't like it at all. Will Jeri ruin her chances to return to the Landmark School for girls by poking around at this mystery?

Guided by God and His Word, the girls in the story are encouraging and normal. They poke at one another, watch out for one another, and act like normal girls. The mystery holds your attention throughout the book, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

In all, I'll give "Fading Tracks" four out of five bookmarks, with a purple scarf as a charm. If you're looking for a good alternative in reading, check out the 'Boarding School Mysteries', published by Zonderkidz.

Happy Reading!
