Talking to the Dead by Bonnie Grove

Bonnie Grove has most definitely made her mark on the Christian fiction marketplace with her debut novel, "Talking to the Dead". If you're not talking to SOMEONE about this book once you've read it...you didn't really read it!

"Talking to the Dead" takes you to the place where life breaks and no one has answers. Kate's husband has died unexpectedly, and not only does she not know how, but she doesn't know why.

Her memories are spotty, and her support is as well. Now, Kate's hearing the voice of her dead husband--or does she? Is she losing her mind--or has she already lost it?

Her encounters with psychologists, counselors, and even a reverend leave her bereft and befuddled. Seems these days about the only person still talking to her is Kevin...her dead husband.

One good thing comes out her required group therapy, and that's Pastor Jack. But as the unexpected keeps occurring, will even that turn out horribly wrong? Only one thing is constant...and that is the reader keeps routing for Kate.

This novel will stay with me long after I've finished it (which was about a half an hour ago:-). She has a haunting joy about her words, and her novel is so laced with reality that you find yourself praying for people who don't even exist.

Bonnie's tale also causes the reader to pause to consider how people in pain are treated by the church. Yes, we must proclaim God's truth with vigor and passion...but not at the expense of the wounded and bleeding.

Finding that balance is delicate...and so is the story in "Talking to the Dead". Take a chance on this new author who has most certainly found her voice...I just hope I get to experience it again!

I'm giving "Talking to the Dead" five out of five bookmarks, with a pair of scissors as a charm...you'll find out midway through the book...so hang in there!

Happy Reading!

I was waiting to get your take on this one! Bonnie Grove sure creates some realistic characters does she not??

I reacted to people in this story with genuine anger, sadness and frustration. This book offers a TON of things to consider and pray about in your own personal walk with Christ.
