The Real Enemy by Kathy Herman

Two things mentioned together make me VERY happy: Kathy Herman and TRILOGY! Kathy's suspense series' rock, and she's back with a new trio of novels that are her best yet.

"The Real Enemy" finds Police Chief Brill Jessup with a major manhunt on her hands. She's just accepted the position, and now a crime spree to end all others is taking place on her new home turf, Sophie Trace, Tennessee.

People are vanishing in thin air, and it's up to Chief Brill Jessup (don't let her name throw you; it's a nickname!) and her team comprised of her force, the FBI and the Sheriff's Department to find the criminal.

But things aren't great at home, either. Tension between Brill and her husband Kurt is affecting every area of her life--especially her relationships with her daughter, Emily--and God.

Can Brill ever forget the events that brought her to Sophie Trace? Will this case be her undoing as a law enforcement officer? And what will it take to bring her to her knees before her Father in Heaven?

With characters that walk off the page and a mystery that will keep you guessing and praying until the last page is turned, this is Kathy Herman's best novel to date!

Emily is as precocious and delightful as they come, and Kurt's desire to honor God will inspire men (Kathy's novels aren't just for women!). If you've ever done battle with evil, you'll understand the title, "The Real Enemy"--as will Chief Jessup and the rest of the town of Sophie Trace.

I'm so excited about this new series, and now I'm going to have to wait until Fall 2009 for another novel!

But you don't have to wait for "The Real Enemy". It's on shelves now from David C. Cook, and I'm giving it five out of five bookmarks with a can of black spray paint as a charm.

Happy Reading!
