I Would Die For You by Brent and Deanna Higgins

**This is a re-posting of a book I discovered last year. Brent and Deanna's chronicle of their son's life has been nominated by Outreach for a high award, and more people are picking up the message of BJ's story and living out the call of God in their lives. Do NOT miss this amazing book!)

Have you ever wanted your life to count for something? Ever felt like you were too old, or too young? Made too many mistakes, or were too timid? Then let this young man you're about to meet inspire you...as he did me...

I jave never read a book that was as inspiring and as convicting as this one. "I Would Die For You" is the true story of Brent Higgins, a young man sold out completely to God that puts many believers to shame in their faith.

In an age of iPods and XBoxes and the latest this and that, BJ found the one thing that truly matters--a life sold out for Jesus. My daughter read this book and remarked to me "Mom, this is the kind of man I want to marry one day."

Brent lived a life more rich and full than anyone else I know...and he died at the age of 15, from an infection he contracted serving on the mission field.

Known to family and friends as BJ, Brent demonstrated an uncanny and deep understanding of God and His ways at an early age. Born the third child to Brent and Deanna Higgins, he was special from his delivery...they were told he was a girl!

Little did anyone know where Brent devotion to God and His Word would take him. At the age of 14, it took him to Peru, to share the Gospel message through drama and ministry. The youngest in his group, Brent was invited to be a leader, and he led with grace and humility.

Filled with remembrances from family and friends, as well as excerpts from Brent's personal journals, this story will reach down deep into your soul and echo Isaiah 6:8's call to us all:

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

Brent's life was short, and some would call it tragic. I say differently. Had God not called this young man home at 15, his message and his inspiration may have been lost on this world. By packing so much living and such power into his brief life, Brent has demonstrated just what the life of a sold out believer can look like.

And I wouldn't mind looking a little more like Brent (because he looks an awful lot like his Father). I'm giving "I Would Die For You" the hard to achieve Golden Bookmark award, with a journal as a charm.

Begin to write down your life journey for those who come after. It's no accident that many who are taken so early have left behind a written legacy for those of us who are left here to continue the work of the Lord.

I'm so inspired by this amazing book, I wish it was required reading in schools. Please do not miss out on this story, and let it inspire you to live out your calling to God fully and whole-heartedly.

Happy Reading!

Deena
