Home For The Holidays--25 Reviews of Christmas and our First Giveaway--The Inspirational Christmas Almanac by Honor Books (And A Giveaway!!)

Photobucket

On this Christmas Day, my all time favorite Christmas book (next to the Bible--that always tops my list, no matter the subject or topic!)....

I love Christmas time for a variety of reasons; the lights, the smells, the fact that I can speak openly about my Jesus and people just have to deal with it! So much of the holiday season brings such great joy that lingers long after the last cookie is eaten and the tree is taken down.

One way I sustain that joy is by keeping a wide variety of Christmas novels and novellas on my bookshelf. But my collection of non-fiction Christmas books is growing as well, and my favorite book by far is "The Inspirational Christmas Almanac" published last year by Honor Books.

This is the Christmas season lover's dream book! Stuffed with more stories, Scriptures, carols, trivia and recipes than the Thanksgiving turkey, "The Inspirational Christmas Almanac" is a never ending source of Christmas enjoyment.

Inside you'll find fun facts and trivia, such as "Top Ten Things Moms Don't Want to Hear Their Kids Say At Christmas", and the reason robins appear on so many Christmas cards.

You'll also find inspirational quotes, "factoids" like the origin of the song "Jingle Bells", and Christmas traditions from around the world. This book contains craft ideas and holiday recipes, such as Bavarian Egg Nog and Snowmen Luminaries.

Lots of Christmas stories, poems and inspirational writings also fill this jam-packed almanac. Included are stories such as “The Burglar’s Christmas” by Willa Cather and “The Elves and the Shoemaker” by The Brothers Grimm.
They've even included pages for you to record YOUR favorite Christmas memories and traditions. You can add your personal touch to this collection that will last for Christmas seasons yet to come.
But the best feature and the reason I love this little book SO much is this...

It's INDEXED! That's right...you can look up all of the trivia, or factoids, or recipes...just by turning to the back of the book. The publisher that put this book together knew just what to do to make it the must have book for those who truly love the Christmas season.

I’ve used the trivia to teach my children about Christmas traditions, the factoids to stump my son, and the Top Ten lists to amuse myself! With all the little goodies in this book, you can find lots of ways to share the wealth of Christmas with others.
And last but not least, the final story in this wonderful book is “The True Story of Christmas”, beautifully written and with Biblical references to share with others, or as a family.

I give "The Inspirational Christmas Almanac" six out of five bookmarks, with a little red crab pot for a charm, surrounded by a Christmas wreath.

Want to know why? Pick up a copy and check out page 157!!

Happy Reading!

Sorry, I got so excited about the book, I forgot to write about my favorite family tradition. My husband's grandma would be a his parent's home every Christmas Eve. Their tradition was making two soups, lobster bisque and chicken noodle. Jello cookies were made in lime and cherry for the Christmas colors and other various foods were made and prayers said. I hope to carry on with a similar family tradition. Thanks,Cindi

Hi Deena-

Please enter me! We have a family tradition of doing advent calendars. In each pocket I put a slip of paper that explains a Christmas tradition and then I include a little gift that represents the tradition. Today I gave the girls candles and we talked about how people light candles at Christmas and that when we do that we can remember that Jesus is the light of the world. I would LOVE to have a book to incorporate new and different traditions in our already existing tradition!

My favorite holiday tradition is letting my children decorate the Christmas tree. One year all the decorations were in one spot and it was very hard to not spread them out.

My favorite tradition is watching It's A Wonderful Life while decorating the tree. Typically on Black Friday, but I was too sick so we were going to do it this weekend. Now I have another virus:( BUT, I am hoping to get it out of the attic so I can do it later in the week if I start feeling better. It makes me sad when I don't get the tree up to enjoy it as long as possible, LOL. I have been reading all my Christmas novels/novellas to get me through though. I don't have this one, so please count me in. It sounds great!

"Och, lassie! D'ye think ye could be giving away anything bigger? Should I win, I may well lay that good for nothing bloody heathen out wi' it! Teach the blasted good for nothing about Christmas, will it no?" So says Dallan MacDonald, Deena. But I'm game! I love stuff like that!

Every Christmas eve we have a feast with friends and family. An Italian festive dinner that is delectable.

I can't think of one single tradition...I have so many...I guess I would have to pick decorating the tree while watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate. Then maybe it would be making Christmas cookies. And I can't forget Starbucks caramel apple ciders! It's the only time of the year I will indulge in more than one Starbucks a month! Oh, and I would love to have this book, that could be another tradition!

Our favorite tradition is our advent calendar. The kids take turns each day to add an ornament on the advent tree.

One of my most favorite traditions is The Twelve Days of Christmas. My 3 sisters and myself would make or buy small little gifts and make up poems for each of the twelve days and then deliver them to my grandparents. The tradition carried on to our spouses and our children. My grandparents have been gone for 6 years now ~ so now we have started "elfing" my parents. This tradition has been going for almost 30 years and I even have a granddaughter that helps now.

Hi Deena,

We don't really have any traditional Christmas things unless you count getting together with family for dinner. Please enter me in your drawing.

Old-fashioned but decorating the tree is our time-honored tradition.

My favorite tradition is probably celebrating Jesus' birthday. Having a cake, and singing Happy Birthday.

That and opening presents (I have to admit I do like gifts)!
