Doesn't She Look Natural by Angela Hunt

Only an author as gifted and talented as Angela Hunt could take such a somber, even morbid subject and make it such an enjoyable reading experience!!

Doesn't She Look Natural is the story of Jennifer Graham, recently divorced and mother of two boys. In an unexpected twist, her divorce has cost her a career in the political arena--can't work for senators and be part of a scandal now, can we?? LOL!!

When another twist comes, it comes in the form of an inheritance from a great uncle. What great news, right? Wait...did I forget to mention that it's the largest and most well known funeral home in Mt. Dora, Florida??

So, now the question is, how do you sell a mortuary? Do you sell it, convert it into a bed and breakfast (don't laugh, she considers the idea!)...or do you finally let God have His say in your life?

I fell in love with each and every character, especially Mrs. Biddle (you'll have to read it to find out why!) and Gerald. There were times, however, when I wanted to shake Jennifer until her teeth rattled...sassin' her momma like that!!

Don't expect this to be all humor, though. Think of it as more of a dramedy...some drama mixed in with some humor. And not dark humor either. I was highly impressed with the take Angela had on how this was an act of worship to God...in caring for His people during their most desperate hour.

This novel is gorgeously written, and I'm thrilled to find out it's first in a series (that at least has TWO titles!!--watch for "She Always Wore Red" coming out next year--yikes, next year!!)

Another pleasing trend is the population of women's fiction with Red Hat Society ladies...if you don't know what that is...you're missin' out! These gals make turning 50 something to look forward to...kind of like a 16 year old wanting her driver's license...can't wait for MY red hat years!!

So, all said and done, this novel is packed with lovable characters, surprises at every turn, and a story that you remember amidst all the others being told in today's Christian fiction marketplace...most definitely unique, and in a very good way.

I give "Doesn't She Look Natural" five out of five bookmarks...no, make that six out of five--with a teeny tiny purple and red coffin charm...and that isn't being macabre...but you'll have to read the book to know why!! Man, it's going to be a long wait til the second book comes out!!

Happy Reading!

P.S. Oh, and I'm getting better about linking my books reviewed to Amazon.com--so if you want to order a copy, simply click on the cover of the book:-)

This looks really good. I don't buy many books because of reviewing, but I may have to break down and buy this one. ;-)

I met Angela at the Philly conference in 2006. She is so very sweet.
