The Great Christmas Bowl by Susan May Warren

Are you looking for a holly, jolly read that will put you in the Christmas mood? Then do I have the book for YOU...

Get Hallmark on the phone! Call Sherwood Pictures! Anyone have Michael Landon, Jr. on speed dial?? Susan May Warren's newest novella MUST be made into a movie! I haven't laughed or cried this much in weeks...and I didn't want it to end.

"The Great Christmas Bowl" spotlights mom Marianne Wallace. Her youngest child, a son, is poised to leave the family nest, and her other children are all off making lives of their own.

Marianne is a HUGE fan of high school football, having married a star player. In fact, the last time they went to State was decades ago. With three strapping boys, you'd think she would have had her own line-up on the grid iron.

Fortunately, Kevin chooses to go out for the team in his senior year of high school, turning Marianne into a football fiend. Hilarity ensues that you won't believe! Oh, to be a mom like Marianne!

Her plans for the perfect holidays go awry, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The lessons learned are worth the struggle to get there, and this story of family, celebration, and hospitality is NOT to be missed!

Again, this is a book I'd go broke buying for friends and family if I could. Susan May Warren has a gift for writing stories that take you to those wonderful places in life that you just long to remain in...and that you end up wanting for yourself.

So, I'm rating "The Great Christmas Bowl" with the Golden Bookmark for Heart and Writing Excellence, as well as voting it the "Best Contemporary Christmas Novella of 2009"! Now, can SOMEONE get Michael Landon, Jr. on the phone?

I've got a movie idea to pitch to him!!!

Happy Reading!

I completely agree with you, Deena. My library had this book so I was able to read it a few weeks ago. So very funny, but with a great spiritual message. And you're right, it would make a great movie!
